Each year, we recognize organizations whose work embodies the spirit of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. and aligns with the breakfast theme. We are proud to honor three Community Action …Awardees whose work advances immigrant justice, promotes belonging, culture, equity, and ensures that communities have the knowledge and tools to advocate for themselves.
The Berkeley Immigration Collective (BIC) is a powerful collaboration of five organizations working together to support immigrants through legal services, education, and direct assistance. Through legal clinics, workshops, and rapid-response coordination, BIC strengthens access to justice and affirms that no one should have to face these challenges alone. BIC is comprised of:
The Multicultural Institute
East Bay Sanctuary Covenant
East Bay Community Law Center
Social Justice Collaborative
Oasis Legal Services
Together, these partners model collective action rooted in solidarity and care.
The Chavez Huerta Tribute Site preserves and uplifts the legacy of Cesar Chavez and Dolores Huerta—leaders whose work transformed the labor movement and advanced the dignity and rights of farmworkers and immigrants nationwide. Through education, storytelling, and public engagement, the Tribute Site connects historic struggles to present-day movements for workers’ rights, immigrant justice, and civic participation.
The Othering & Belonging Institute is a national leader in research, policy, and narrative change focused on advancing inclusion and equity. Through rigorous scholarship and community-centered strategies, the Institute examines how systems of exclusion take shape, and how belonging can be intentionally cultivated through policy, practice, and culture.
Also in the house, bringing the smooth tunes we love, will be the Berkeley High School Jazz Ensemble Combo. Each year, they bring incredible energy to the room, truly rocking the house! Along with the always powerful performance from some of our favorite youth in Young Gifted and Black!Show More
