Board of Directors

While BCM’s daily operations are guided by our faithful staff, we also have a Board of Directors that helps BCM fulfill its mission on a larger scale!

The Board of Directors meet monthly to serve BCM’s needs.  Board Meetings happen at BCM’s on the second Monday of every month at 7 pm!

The BCM Board of Directors consists of multiple elected members and three board-appointed officials. The term for elected members are two years. Appointed members serve a one-year term. Each board member must be a current BCM member, attend monthly board meetings, and participate in board committees. BCM members are welcome to attend board meetings for the Public Comment segment of the meeting.

The BCM Board is interested in hearing from potential board members from a wide range of interests and backgrounds.  A commitment to supporting community media and free speech is the most important requirement.  Community people with a background or interest in law, finance/business, media production and fundraising are especially welcomed.  Most of our board members live in Berkeley but there are a limited number of slots for non-Berkeley residents. We are actively recruiting board members.

Please contact Winston Burton at winburton85@yahoo.com with information about yourself if you’re interested.

Under her leadership, Creations Berkeley has grown from serving 20–30 students in 2022 to over 100 annually, delivering more than 700 hours of instruction, 20+ public performances, and dozens of student-led media projects—including a youth-produced short film premiered at a local film festival.

Carla is a multimedia educator, producer, and community advocate with a deep commitment to building creative pathways for young people of color. She partners with local schools, community organizations, and arts institutions to create hands-on learning environments that support academic growth, college preparation, and early career development in media and the performing arts.

Carla began her academic journey at Berkeley City College, where she earned her A.A. in Multimedia Arts with honors while simultaneously launching her youth programs. She is a 2026 graduate from San Francisco State University, with a degree in Broadcast & Electronic Communication Arts (BECA) with additional study in Cinema—work that strengthens her technical expertise in production, storytelling, and media education.

In 2026, Carla will launch Creations Berkeley’s first Leadership & Teaching Cohort, a workforce development pathway that transitions long-term youth participants into paid Creative Interns and future instructors. This initiative builds local employment opportunities and ensures the next generation of Creations educators reflects the community they serve.

As a member of the Berkeley Community Media (BCM) Board of Directors, Carla brings her experience in youth engagement, creative program development, and community-centered production to help advance BCM’s mission of empowering local storytellers and expanding media literacy throughout the East Bay.
